Individual Therapy

My Approach

Each person seeks therapy for their own particular reasons and has their own expectations of both the purpose and the process of therapy. Accordingly, my approach is essentially person-centred and collaborative, taking these individual differences into consideration.

My approach is also influenced by a range of therapeutic styles, including the existential, mindfulness-based, emotion-focused, solution-focused, narrative and cognitive-behavioural approaches. The extent to which I draw on any of these is determined through careful listening, consideration and discussion.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of psychological and situational challenges, including:

  • Intimate relationships

  • Parenting, family and friendships

  • Mood and anxiety

  • Work stress and burnout

  • Adjustment and life transitions

  • Trauma and grief

  • Substance misuse and behavioural addictions

  • Pain management

  • Identity and existential challenges

What to Expect

The first session provides an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to get from it, and how we might work together. There is no requirement to arrive with a clearly defined problem or a set of goals. Sometimes understanding what is happening and what you want to change takes time and we can work this out together.

If you'd like to make an appointment, please contact me by email, phone or text.
